Midwest Homeschool World Series

Not sure if I mentioned this here, but my brother is on a homeschool baseball team called Summit this year. We just went to the Midwest Homeschool World Series in Indianapolis and it was really cool. This was the first time we've ever done something like that. The place the tournament was held was called Grand Park and they have 26 baseball diamonds!!!! Most are turf, but a few are the same grass as the Tigers play on. The place is very nice.

Thursday we had Opening Ceremonies, introductions of the teams, review of the tournament. Our Varsity won both of their games and JV (my brother's team) won one and lost one. The first game for JV was one of their best yet this season.

Friday started out with Varsity in 1st place and JV in 5th (out of 8). Unfortunately, JV lost both games, but the second game, we were 5 runs down in the 5th (was going to be the last inning because of time) and we came back and tied it and almost won. It was so close. So we had to play another inning and we lost. Our Varsity won both again to stay in first and undefeated!

Also, there were 4 skills competitions: Roadrunner - see who can run the bases the fastest, Golden Arm - throwing from center field to a net at home plate(the goal was to hit the net without a bounce), Around the Horn - which team can throw the ball around the field in a certain order fastest, and Home Run Derby. Two guys from both Varsity and JV competed and we won Roadrunner, Golden Arm, and Home Run Derby!!!! So even though JV lost all their games today, it was a good day for Summit.

Saturday, JV played in the "Consolation" Bracket and we WON!! We played the team we played in the first game. My brother got two hits and a walk and threw a guy out (he's a catcher). Our defense - especially the outfield - made some great plays and did a good job at backing each other up. Varsity played in the Championship Game and for the first time they won (6-0)!!!!!!! Summit Varsity are the Homeschool World Series Champions of 2015!

This was really cool. Before this year, Summit JV has never won a game at this tournament. They don't come every year, but they never won and we won twice! Also, last year, they only scored 6 runs; this year we scored 48!!!!!!

It was a really awesome experience for all of us and it was fun watching Varsity play again; the whole Varsity team really is fun to watch, because they are so good. Plus, on the way home, my mom let me eat a Frosty for dinner (#NicestMomEVER!). Here are some pics (I'm going to try not to put too many :).

Batting

Catching

Yay, he's on base!
Funny thing, the 1st baseman in the above picture looks like a guy from my youth group :)

Heading home.....
They have this weird thing called "courtesy for the catcher (or pitcher)" where they take out the catcher for a pinch runner but the catcher can stay in the game. Joe really doesn't like getting pulled for a pinch runner because he loves to run the bases. This was a treat.

..... SCORE!!!!

This happy orange rock was on our way to and from the park everyday and always made us smile. It has a face on both sides. Thank you to whoever did that. It cheered us up after a hard day of losing Friday.

Walking off the field after a win Saturday!
