Dragonspell ~ Donita K. Paul

Dragonspell is the first book in the DragonKeeper Chronicles. The book introduces us to Kale, a young girl who is going to serve Paladin, her ruler. She never makes it where she's going and instead begins a fantastic journey where she discovers a talent she didn't know she had. 

I like this book (and series) because it has obvious Biblical connections, but they're not cheesey (in my opinion). Paul creates a whole new world that seems familiar at the same time. And who doesn't love dragons?
