London In The Dark Anniversary Tour // Review, Spotlight, & Giveaway!!!

I'm super excited to be participating in the anniversary celebration of "London In The Dark." It was a great book and Victoria is doing some awesome stuff for this "birthday". This will be a long post, but read all the way to the end. It'll be work it.

BOOK SYNOPSIS
London, 1910

Budding Private Detective Cyril Arlington Hartwell has a conundrum. London is being ravaged by the largest run of thefts in recent history. His hunch that it is all tied together may put him and those he loves in more danger than he could have reckoned.

Olivia Larken Hartwell is just home from boarding school for the summer anticipating time with her adoring parents. She misses her absent brother, Cyril, hoping for the day he will finally come home. But tragedy strikes, causing upheaval for all concerned and changes her life in a way she never could have imagined.

Olivia, Cyril, and their friends must bring the hidden to light, seek to execute justice, and dispel the darkness that hovers over London… and their hearts.

 MEET VICTORIA LYNN

Victoria Lynn is in her 20s and if she's not writing, she is probably sewing, singing, playing the piano, washing dishes, creating something with her hands, or learning something new. She has a passion for serving her Creator, encouraging others and being creative. She blogs at www.rufflesandgrace.com about writing, fashion, modesty, her walk with God and life. She lives in Michigan with her parents and 8 siblings.

Where do I start? I know. With the random fun stuff. For that, we need a list.
  • Victoria is from the great state of Michigan! I wondered when it was featured, because it's kind of a random place to choose as your character's home, if that's not also where you live. Cool connection there.
  • Harlow Doyle, PI. Is anyone else hearing that voice in their head? "Harlow Doyle, Puh-RIvate Eye". Oh, it was great! I grinned from ear to ear.
  • I'm watching through Little House On The Prairie, so it was... interesting, having a character named Reverend Alden.
Now, for the actual story. It's set in London in 1910. Victoria did a fantastic job in how she introduced the characters slowly and created the tension by releasing information in little chunks. I don't know how long she's been writing, but that element seems very seasoned.

The characters were dimensional and relatable. They had deep thoughts and emotions. The conversations were thought-provoking. The struggles were real. Cyril's struggles with letting people close to him were a huge connection point for me. Dudley was a good friend to all and Olivia was the perfect female character. She wasn't the damsel in distress, but she wasn't an overly strong woman either. It was a perfect balance that I feel like fit well for the time period.

I still haven't gotten to the plot! Focus, Sarah.

Cyril is a private investigator in London. (He trained under Harlow Doyle. I am so amused by that name!). Anyway, he solves a case and someone (duh, duh) is not happy about that. When a tragedy strikes, he is thrust back into the family he's avoided for years.

Olivia is excited to see her beloved older brother again after so long, but finds him much different than she remembers. And she doesn't like what he's become.

Things start going wrong in Cyril's case and in his life. Strange "coincidences" are happening. And someone from their past shows up in a surprising way.

The way information was revealed, the plot twists and how the story moved along; it was all on par with well-know, established writers. The ending was well done with a perfect blend of justice and mercy and a happy ending! Yay! The "five years later" update on the characters - I expected that. Not that we'd get the update, but that's what I imagined happening to the characters. Well, not B, but the other two. You'll know what I mean once you read the book.

Speaking of reading the book, how would you like to win your very own copy?
