I May Have Changed My Mind

Gun control just makes sense, doesn't it? If something is harmful, it should be banned. That's the idea behind banning pesticides, right?

Banning assault weapons is a great idea. We've got to keep guns out of criminals' hands. Since gun-free zones have worked so well, the next logical step is to pass stricter laws to stop criminals from having guns.

Schools, malls, churches, and movie theaters are much safer now that they are gun-free zones. Banning guns and making it significantly harder for people to get them is a common sense move. We've seen this idea work with the war on drugs. Making drugs illegal has really stopped people from using them and made it harder for criminals to acquire.

Obviously, gun control laws and assault weapons bans will work because the last time we completely banned something in this country, it was super successful. Prohibition is a shining example of how well bans work. It's truly an inspiration.

The other argument, to let any adult with a concealed carry license carry their gun wherever they go, is simply insane. Letting people have the means to protect themselves and those around them is NOT a good idea. It means there might be guns around us at any time! There's no need for people to carry their own weapons for self-defense and the protection of all around them. After all, we have security guards and police for a reason. They have guns and they can protect us.

Yes, it simply makes sense to ban guns.

  1. If the Prohibition part didn't clue you in, this is heavy sarcasm, people. I normally don't post stuff like this, but I just could not resist this time.

  2. Ha ha, I'm glad this was sarcasm! You almost fooled me for a minute there! :) The thing is that I hear arguments very much like this that are completely serious.
"...the last time we completely banned something in this country, it was super successful...." :D Sure it was...
Anyway, thanks for speaking up about this - there's definitely nothing wrong with stating your opinion, and your sarcasm is a really good way to make a point.

    1. Anna,
Thank you for your comment! I am a big fan of the YouTube Channel Blimey Cow, and they do a really good job speaking about issues using sarcasm, so I thought I'd take a page from their book.
