A Noble Scheme by Roseanna M. White // Book Review

Gemma Parks is known to the London elite as G. M. Parker, a columnist renowned for her commentary on the cream of society. Behind the scenes, she uses her talents to aid the Imposters in their investigations by gathering intel at events and providing alibis for the firm's members through her columns. Yet her clandestine work would be more exhilarating if it weren't for the constant presence of the gentleman who broke her heart.

Graham Wharton has never had eyes for anyone but Gemma, and she left his heart in tatters when she walked away from him. When the Imposters take on a new job to recover a kidnapped boy mistaken for his aristocratic cousin, Graham is determined to use the time with Gemma to not only restore the missing boy, but to also win back the only woman he's ever loved. As they trace the clues laid out before them, Graham and Gemma must devise a noble scheme to save the boy's life and heal their hearts.

 My Review

Wow! Not what I was expecting at all! While there was one twist that totally threw me for a loop, I am pretty pleased with myself for mostly figuring out the pieces that put the puzzle together. Maybe I can apply to join The Imposters, Ltd.

This story is a little different from Roseanna's usual work. The subject is quite weighty (though done very well and gently). Our characters are wrestling with heavy things like guilt, betrayal, grief, unforgiveness, and anger, just to name a few. We are thrown blind into their turmoil and I kept trying to guess what might be behind it all. Well, I never saw it coming, that's for sure! And yet, it made so much sense!

Forgiveness is a huge theme in this book. That is timely, since I am working through a non-fiction book on the subject and have been talking to a friend about this topic a lot. It can be so hard to forgive, whether that is yourself, another, or even God.

There is more emphasis on the characters' growth and development than on the case The Imposters are solving, though that is there and it is very interesting. As I said, I did put a lot of it together before our investigators but there were still a few surprises.

It was delightful to be with The Imposters again, and to see how Merritt is fitting in with the crew. I look forward to seeing how this series is wrapped up with Yates' story!

I was on the Launch Team for this book and received an advanced copy for review. All opinions are my own and a favorable review was not required.

Roseanna M. White is a bestselling, Christy Award winning author who has long claimed that words are the air she breathes. When not writing fiction, she’s homeschooling her two kids, editing, designing book covers, and pretending her house will clean itself. Roseanna is the author of a slew of historical novels that span several continents and thousands of years. Spies and war and mayhem always seem to find their way into her books…to offset her real life, which is blessedly ordinary. You can learn more about her and her stories at www.RoseannaMWhite.com.
