Undercover Princess
is the first book in a delightful series for girls ages 8 to 12, Chestnut Academy

It's no secret that I am a big fan of The Tales of Tarsurella. At this point, I'm pretty much going to buy any book that Livy writes that is connected to these characters! So when she announced that she was going to be writing a trilogy for middle grade girls, I started beefing up my book fund! Am I a middle grade girl? No. Is this about Princess Millie, one of my favorite characters? Yes! Therefore, I will be buying it.

The title of this first book was released in June. "Undercover Princess" sounds perfect for Millie and I can't wait to see what kind of shenanigans she gets up to! But we are here for a cover reveal. So without further ado...

TA-DA!

It's so cute!!!! While we still have to wait until October to get our hands on this book, there is a pre-order link!! I can't wait to get my copy :) But wait! There is even more fun! I got to ask Livy a few questions about this new book & series. I don't know about you, but I think asking authors questions about their books is SO. MUCH. FUN!!! It was hard to keep it to just a few questions because this is Millie we are talking about and I also want to know all the things about anything related to Tarsurella.

What was the most fun part of creating this new adventure for Millie?

Oh my goodness, I love that you asked that, I honestly don’t even know where to start! Haha! I had SO much fun with this!

I always knew Millie was going to have a “spin off” series at some point, and when I merged her going to Kentucky with the idea I had had as a young girl for “Chestnut Academy”, this horse school for young ladies, I knew it was going to be a joy to write! I think one of the elements I’ve enjoyed the most, is creating a whole new cast of characters for Millie to bond and connect with as well! Her three roomies are absolutely darling, I love their dynamics as those friendships begin to blossom and grow! And then, in Book #2, we discover more about the school for boys right across the street. Millie’s brother Willie is attending there, and we get to meet Willie’s new friends as well, and let me just tell ya, that crew is a hoot. Haha!

What was the most challenging part?

Hmm, I think it was a little difficult for me to keep things short and sweet, haha! The problem is that my ideas breed more ideas which breed more ideas, and when I get to know my characters better, they each demand to be in the spotlight, and I have to stay super focused to keep things tightly reigned in, haha! I’ve written three books in the series so far and I would love to do more, but we’ll see how readers react and what they think! :)

What was your inspiration for this series?

The original idea actually came when I was a young girl, just 10 or 11! I’ll never forget the moment when lightning struck - my imagination was ignited as I saw a world of characters unfold before my eyes. Girls and their horses, all attending a fun, exclusive school in the hills of Kentucky called “Chestnut Academy”, exploded in my minds eye. I wrote several chapters as a child, but the excitement eventually wore off and I moved onto a new project (a typical pattern for me as a kid, haha!).
It wasn’t until years later, after I started publishing my series for teen girls, that I had the idea of returning to my “Chestnut Academy” idea and find a way to bring it to life! I’ve always had a passion for creating pure and lovely fiction for teen girls, but my passion to finally publish middle grade books has come in recent years as I’ve seen beloved corporations like Disney, American Girl, and Barbie push stories with unbiblical messaging that I don’t want my future children being subjected to. Storytelling is my way of fighting back against that darkness and planting seeds of light and hope into the next generation!

What surprised you the most in writing this book/series?

Honestly? How much fun it was! I was a little hesitant to step away from my main series “The Tales of Tarsurella”, but I had WAY too much fun writing these books! I truly hope readers enjoy reading them as much as I did writing them, so that I can write many more ðŸ˜‰

What is one fun behind-the-scenes tidbit about this book/series?

This is incredibly random, but when I was a little girl and first dreaming up the characters for this series, I created a snooty girl named Amanda. I thought she was going to think she was SO cool because she was *gasp* thirteen, and all the other girls were only ten, eleven, and twelve. I don’t know why, but at that point in my life thirteen felt SO old and SO incredibly cool, hahaha! I wanted her to be a little edgy, so I gave her a...dun dun dun...black choker to wear around her neck. I remember sketching that initial photo of her and thinking the choker would make her a bad, bad, girl. Hahaha.

I loved reading her answers and I hope you did too! This last one got me because I remember being in awe of 13-year-olds as well :)
