Regal Hearts Season Three Release Blog Tour // Book Review & Character Interview
Since that reveal post I have gotten to read the book and I know exactly what the girl with the crown means!!! Man, it's kind of a whirlwind and the stories are starting to converge between Tales of Tarsurella and Regal Hearts. At the end of the book, Livy lays out the plan for moving forward and it's an exciting path :)
I'm sharing my review (which is super hard to write without spoilers!!) and I interviewed Charlie as well! I like interviewing more secondary characters because we don't know them as well. Charlie is the best friend of one of the main characters so I feel like he's an important person to know better. Plus, he's one of my favorite secondary characters. Really, he's more of a minor main character than a true secondary character. Another reason I picked him was because I knew I wouldn't be able to pick between Emma and Arden (who are my favorite characters in RH) and Charlie is right behind them, so he won!
Before anything else, you might be wondering why these are called "seasons". They are written in a TV show format, each book having ten "episodes". I will say that when you first start reading, it can take a minute to get into the writing style. It's not how books are normally written. But it is fun!
My Review
What a whirlwind!!!! My mind is spinning and I'm sure I'm going to forget things that I wanted to mention. It's also going to be SO. HARD. to write this without spoilers! We make some major strides forward in this book and the storylines of Tarsurella and RH are really coming together.
Of all the characters in the two series, I think Asher is getting the most page time and undergoing some of the biggest character development. It's been really cool to see, actually.
I'm going to try and do a character roundup without spoilers. Let's see... Emma is going outside of her comfort zone and starting to find her calling; the fourth princess now knows her identity; Aurora and princess #4 are not sure they are cut out for their roles; Jane gets several big shocks dropped on her; Asher, as I said, it maturing and growing into a leader. Arden, Charlie, and Logan are around a bit more but Jack and Peter are only barely mentioned. There are a lot of hard and/or sad things but also a lot of good/happy things. We have a few breakthroughs and a few setbacks. Two of the major crises are solved but that doesn't mean we are out of the woods. Oh no, it couldn't be that easy. Oh, and we are trusting some characters who haven't exactly earned our trust so I hope that doesn't come back to bite our good characters.
Emma and Arden are still my two favorite characters. I like Eleanor too, and after Emma, she is probably the one I most connect to in the RH world.
I'm excited about the direction Livy is planning to take things going forward. (Again, no spoilers :) There is still a lot of story left to tell but I'm really pleased with the progress that was made in this book.
Character Interview: Charlie
Is it hard being so super-smart? When I was younger, I used to struggle with feeling like I “fit”
anywhere. It was a challenge to find anyone my age with whom I could
have a meaningful conversation, and generally enjoyed conversing with
gentlemen who were old enough to be my Grandfather. Thankfully, I
was no stranger to the wizard-ing wonders of the internet, and found
(as Jane so thoughtfully puts it) my “nerd community”. I was finally
home, surrounded by a family of like-minded intellectuals who place more
value in setting their sights on someday winning a Nobel Peace Prize,
than they do a High School popularity contest.
(Also, the fact that her Dad is a sheer genius and a once-a-generation-legend who will go down in the history books makes her that much more awesome!)
Also, she tends to spend a little too much of that precious, very limited, brain space, daydreaming about finding the perfect boyfriend, which is so beyond me as to why she’d want to spend so much time mentally ruminating on that subject, but oh well, we’ve got bigger fish to fry. She is a girl, so I’ve gotta give her space to be one, I guess.
Let’s just say, I’ve taken a lot of notes from Mr Akerly over the years, and my inventions will make his yogurt dispensing refrigerator look like child’s play.
Cornelius Swarthout, I salute thee.
Sheer genius.
What do you want to be when you grow up? I’m planning to go to Stanford. I’ll be studying computer science. It should give me a solid academic platform for a variety of careers, and I don’t feel like I have to make any hard and fast decisions as to what will happen in later years, but Stanford is the clear path I’ll be taking. I’ve known (as Jane would say “it’s destiny”) since I was ten.
I hope you enjoyed learning more about Charlie!!! If you'd like to learn more about Regal Hearts, you can check out each book by clicking the title below.
