2018 Midwest Homeschool World Series

Better late than never :)

The Midwest Homeschool World Series was amazing. I loved the experience last time I went, three years ago, but this was even better. Being at such an amazing venue like Grand Park, the absolute hilarity of the boys (I wish we could have had a camera on these two brothers on our team at all times), and the great baseball all added up to a fabulous three days.

The first game on Wednesday determined your seeding going forward. I don't know how home/away was determined for game one, but we were away and down, but came back to win. That earned us the #2 seed and we were home from there on out in the tournament.

Every game, we would be down and come from behind to win. We went undefeated and only had to play four games, including the championship. Only one game, the second against CEC, was close. We scored 37 runs in four games and gave up 19.

We were blessed with great weather. It was not too hot and the rain kept holding off. Originally, it was supposed to rain all the days of the tournament. Then it wasn't going to rain until Saturday (after we were gone) and then the forecast said rain off and on all day Friday - the championship day!!! But again, God answered prayer, and it only sprinkled the tiniest bit.

The boys were great. They encouraged one another, cheered each other on, and never let the team get down. When we were losing, they'd be saying, "let's get some runs" and when we were hitting and scoring, they'd tell the batter, "we're not done". There were lots of smiles after wins, lots of laughing, and I think they just all had a really nice time.

The final out of the championship game :)
Summit apparently has been in the championship game every year since 2013, but has only won it twice in that time; the other year being 2015. It's just really exciting.

Everyone played well, but our first baseman for much of the time was a sophomore who is brand new to us this year and man, he is good. He made diving plays and stretched for balls and just overall was so impressive. Likewise, our outfield was great. The ball would go up and out and you just felt certain that they would get it. They all just did very well pitching, hitting, running the bases. It was a great three days of baseball.

I'm so glad my brother got to play on this team for the past four years. It's been so fun being a part of Summit, even as a fan. I don't know about the rest of my family, but I'm really going to miss it. My brother's never played on a team like it and probably won't ever again. It was a great experience, for all of us, and I know I won't ever forget it.
