Almost History

Last night, I felt like I went back in time as I listened to Justin Verlander pitch a 1-hitter. He took a no-hitter into the 9th inning and was just incredible. He was getting swings and misses on everything he threw (8 of his 9 strikeouts were on swinging thirds) and hit 97mph at least twice. His last seven starts have all been better than the last one, leading up to this. We have our ace back and I am so happy. When - not if - Verlander does throw his next no-hitter, he will be one of only 6 pitchers to have 3 or more no-nos in their career (Nolan Ryan, Cy Young, Sandy Kofax, Bob Feller, and Larry Corcoran). So in his career now, he has two no-nos and two 1-hitters.

Verlander became just the second active pitcher with two no-hit bids lost in the ninth inning, according to Elias Sports Bureau. The other is his teammate, Anibal Sanchez
